Terms of Service

Last updated: 2026-07-10

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern access to and use of the MISO LMP API (the "Service"), operated by Yitian Li ("we," "us"). By creating an API key, calling the Service, or subscribing to a paid tier, you ("you," "Customer") agree to these Terms.

1. The Service

The Service provides programmatic access to Locational Marginal Pricing (LMP) data for the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) grid, sourced from MISO's public market data feeds, along with derived analytics (moving averages, congestion rankings) and geolocation features. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of MISO. "MISO" refers to the Midcontinent Independent System Operator and is used only to describe the underlying grid the data covers.

2. Accounts and API Keys

You are responsible for keeping your API key confidential and for all activity conducted under it. Keys are issued per email address; we store only a cryptographic hash of your key, never the plaintext, and cannot recover a lost key, so you must generate a new one. Notify us immediately if you believe a key has been compromised.

3. Acceptable Use

You agree not to: (a) exceed the request limits of your tier by circumventing rate limiting or provisioning multiple free-tier keys to avoid paying for a paid tier; (b) resell, sublicense, or redistribute the Service or its derived analytics as a competing data product without our prior written consent (this restriction does not extend to MISO's own public data, which we do not own); (c) use the Service to build tools that violate law, including market manipulation or unauthorized trading activity; (d) attempt to reverse engineer, scrape beyond documented endpoints, or overload the Service beyond normal API use. We may suspend or terminate keys used in violation of this section.

4. No Financial or Operational Advice: Disclaimer of Accuracy

The Service is provided for informational and development purposes only. LMP data may be delayed, incomplete, or stale relative to MISO's live systems (see the is_stale field on each response) and is not a substitute for MISO's official market data. You must not rely on the Service as the sole basis for financial trading decisions, energy dispatch commitments, grid-critical operations, or any decision where inaccurate or delayed data could cause financial loss, equipment damage, or harm. The Service is not designed or warranted for use in life-safety or critical-infrastructure control systems.

5. Billing, Tiers, and Cancellation

Paid tiers are billed monthly in advance via Stripe and renew automatically until cancelled. Fees are non-refundable except where required by law or at our sole discretion. Manage or cancel your subscription anytime via the self-serve billing portal (POST /api/stripe/portal with your API key), or contact globalspots22@gmail.com; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. We may change tier pricing or limits with notice posted on this page or at the Service's documentation.

6. Availability and Support

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without uptime guarantee. Upstream MISO outages may result in stale data being served rather than an error, per the Service's documented staleness contract. We do not guarantee any specific response time for support requests at the free or entry-level tiers.

7. Intellectual Property

We retain all rights in the Service's software, schemas, analytics methodology, and documentation. You retain any rights you already hold in data you submit to us (such as your email address). Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of MISO's underlying public market data, which remains publicly available independent of this Service.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenue, or data, arising from your use of or inability to use the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, or (b) $100 USD.

9. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claim, loss, or damage arising from your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party right.

10. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access for violation of these Terms, non-payment, or abuse of the Service. You may stop using the Service and request account deletion at any time.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by an updated "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of California, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
